Overview
The Beaumont neighborhood’s been around for quite a while. Originally platted back in 1910, it’s developers wanted to focus on the fact that the neighborhood is slightly elevated above its neighbors offering some great views, thus naming it “Beaumont” meaning “beautiful mountain” in French.
Neither the geography or the neighborhood have changed much over the years, except for the fact that there’s no longer a streetcar serving the area. Transit is now mostly handled by NE Fremont St. and NE Sandy Blvd. and there’s a growing business area located in what’s known as Beaumont Village. The Beaumont Business Association has grown from a meager four registered businesses to over 55 in just the past 2 years. It’s also added numerous activities to spur growth and attract new businesses to the area. Some of these include the Fremont Fest, Pub Crawl, Festival of Lights, and the newly created Second Friday, modeled on First Thursdays from the Pearl District.
Some notable businesses in the area include:
Amalfi’s Italian Restaurant – For over 50 years, Amalfi’s has been recognized as a local institution. From seating roughly 15–20 back in 1959 to now seating 250 people Amalfi’s has sustained a successful reputation for excellent food and courteous service.
Bottles – One of the newest businesses in Beaumont, Bottles is a bar and bottle shop with a selection of over 200 beers and great barbecue.
Green Dog Pet Supply – Ultimate destination for green-living Portlanders and their lucky pets. They’ve been in Beaumont for a while now and even had to expand to a new location, only two blocks away though.
No Ho’s Hawaiian Cafe – Noho has been serving delicious Hawaiian food on SE Clinton for 16 years. This second location opened in September of 2010 and a must-see if you’re in the area.
