The Alameda neighborhood is located in Inner NE Portland just south of Alberta Arts and north of Irvington. It’s more notable for the “Alameda Ridge” which gives its lucky residents breathtaking views of the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s primarily comprised of detached, single-family homes and is very family-friendly.

Overview
The Alameda neighborhood is one of the oldest in all of Portland. It actually began as it’s own community beyond the city limits but as Portland grew Alameda was gradually absorbed into it. There’s an entire website dedicated to it’s history:AlamedaHistory.org Absolutely fascinating, and the sheer amount of content there is a true testament to the neighborhood’s long history.
When it comes to biking, Alameda ranks about average with its many side streets and lack of heavy traffic. The only significantly difficult area of any bike ride here is probably while crossing the Alameda Ridge, and even that is nothing like biking around Mount Scott or even Mount Tabor.
There neighborhood is filled with many small, local businesses. Two that are a must see are the Alameda Brewhouse and the Alameda Cafe. The brewhouse has been in business for 9 years and features an assortment of award-winning hand-crafted ales and freshly prepared food. The Alameda cafe is just around the corner and is a favorite neighborhood hangout.
