Neighborhoods
Alameda – Named for the street that runs through the center of the neighborhood, Alameda is almost exclusively comprised of single-family homes
Alberta Arts – The east-side version of the Pearl District, Alberta Arts was once dominated by low-housing and little employment opportunities but in the last 10 years the Alberta Arts neighborhood has been transformed into a local artist’s paradise.
Beaumont – Originally platted in 1910, Beaumont has had strong ties with the Wilshire neighborhood to the north, encouraging commercial growth in Beaumont Village along NE Fremont St.
Boise – Residents in Boise have the luxury of living in a primarily residential neighborhood but are within walking distance to all the shops, boutiques and restaurants lining N. Mississippi Ave.
Bridgeton This narrow neighborhood hugs the southern shore of the Columbia River across from Hayden Island and is comprised of almost as many hotels as houses because of the Expo Center just across I-5.
Concordia – Another primarily residential neighborhood in NE Portland, it is probably most well know for Concordia University.
Cully East – Mostly residential, although there are smaller businesses scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Cully West – Like it’s sister neighborhood to the east, Cully West is also primarily residential with larger businesses lining the major roads that make up its borders.
Eliot – Legacy Emanuel hospital rests at the heart of the Eliot neighborhood. Nearby though there’s a rather disproportionate number of restaurants and several parks.
Grant Park – This neighborhood is named for Grant Park, which got it’s name from President Ulysses S. Grant who made numerous visits to Portland and Vancouver, a rare treat even for a president in his time (well before air travel or standardized rail).
Hayden Island – There isn’t much residential real estate on Hayden Island but if you’re the nautical type or work in Washington Hayden Island may work well for you.
Heron Meadows – Very little residential property out in Heron Meadows considering how large it is. Most of the land here is comprised of parks, golf courses and commercial/industrial property.
Hollywood – This neighborhood is filled with numerous shops and restaurants as well as the historic Hollywood Theatre, built back in the 20s and serves as a local historic center. Don’t let the theatre’s size fool you, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.
Humboldt – Similar to the Overlook neighborhood to the south, Humboldt has a wonderful mix of residential homes and businesses while still maintaining that family-friendly feel.
Irvington – One of the oldest neighborhoods in Portland. Irvington is primarily residential and has many restored homes, several of which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Madison South – If you’ve ever driven south on 205 then you’ve undoubtedly seen Madison South. Part of it towers over the surrounding neighborhoods and offers spectacular views of Portland.
PDX – Resting along the shores of the Columbia River, most of this neighborhood is owned by Portland International Airport. Believe it or not though, there are still a few homes in the area. They might be a bit noisy at times depending on where you are but there’s a good chance that’s already been factored into the sale price
Piedmont – Back in the day, Piedmont began as one of the original suburbs of Portland, founded in 1889 by a man named Edward Quackenbush. Since then it’s grown to include a wide array of home styles and residents, and thanks to the local NABISCO factory on breezy days there’s a slight hint of fresh baked cookies. Mmmm
Rose City Park – Just north of I-84 and west of the Hollywood district is a neighborhood known as Rose City Park. Here you’ll find plenty of tree-lined streets and several city parks.
Roseway – Situated around the intersection of NE Fremont and NE Sandy is the Roseway neighborhood. Most of the neighborhood’s commercial businesses are located along these two streets with the rest of the neighborhood being primarily residential.
Sabin – One of the smaller neighborhoods in NE Portland, Sabin is almost exclusively composed of residential homes with most businesses located along NE MLK Blvd, NE Prescott, NE 15th Ave, and NE Fremont which separate if from surrounding neighborhoods.
Sullivan’s Gulch – At the southernmost point of NE Portland is Sullivan’s Gulch, named for Timothy Sullivan, an early Portland resident and farmer. The neighborhood includes Lloyd Center, Rose Garden Arena, Oregon Convention Center and many hotels. Most of the homes in and around Sullivan’s Gulch are condos but the detached homes that do come available are at a premium.
Sumner – South of Portland International Airport is the Sumner neighborhood. It’s primarily residential and has great access to transit.
Vernon – Centered around Woodlawn City Park is the Vernon neighborhood. The area is fairly quiet especially since it’s almost exclusively residential and great for families.
Wilshire – Twin-sister to the Beaumont neighborhood, Wilshire has many craftsman and bungalow -style homes and is very family-friendly.
